DISCIPLINES
The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) sets a new benchmark in sustainable, student-centred campus design in Malaysia. Strategically located in Ampang Hilir, the award-winning campus integrates academic, arts, and athletic facilities within a cohesive masterplan—designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and environmental responsibility for 21st-century learners.
ARCHITECTURE
ISKL, located on an 11.8-hectare site, brings together its elementary, middle, and high school divisions within a unified, future-ready campus. Comprising five blocks of 5-storey buildings, the campus includes a dedicated performing arts centre, underground parking, and a wide range of academic and sports facilities—such as two gyms, Olympic and training-sized swimming pools, three football fields, tennis and badminton courts, and science and arts labs—all connected by a curvilinear circulation spine. At the heart of the campus lies a central plaza and the Performing Arts Centre, conceived as a vibrant communal and cultural hub.
LANDSCAPE
Meanwhile, the landscape design integrates educational values into the environment, fostering a strong connection between students and nature.
By creating outdoor learning spaces, green corridors, and interactive natural settings, the design encourages students to appreciate environmental stewardship while stimulating critical thinking and creativity. The landscape supports both formal and informal educational activities, nurturing holistic development and lifelong achievement. VERITAS Landscape’s approach reflects the school’s mission to blend academic excellence with environmental awareness, shaping a vibrant and sustainable campus for future generations.
PLANNING
VERITAS Planning was pivotal in securing timely planning approval on an 11.8-hectare site. The team provided comprehensive planning consultancy, ensuring that the project aligned with local statutory requirements and urban planning policies, while also reflecting the ambitious sustainability and educational objectives of the school.
Our services included site planning, land use verification, compliance checks with local authority guidelines, and coordination with technical agencies to address access, traffic, drainage, and environmental considerations. We prepared and submitted the necessary planning documentation, including layout plans, planning reports, and justifications for the project’s innovative design and green features.
ENVIRONMENT
The school approaches sustainability in a holistic manner, addressing key aspects such as energy efficiency, materials, resources, indoor environmental quality, waste disposal, transportation energy, building services, and water efficiency. These sustainable features have made ISKL the greenest school in Malaysia.
Key Sustainable Features:
- Renewable energy generation through PV, with total solar capacity of 425 kWp
- Achieved a Building Energy Intensity (BEI) of 50 kWh/m²/year during the design phase
- Chilled floor slab system
- Use of low VOC and no added urea formaldehyde building finishes & materials
- Provide illuminance level around 350 per working plane for classroom & offices
- Provide EV parking for 5% of overall carpark
