DISCIPLINES
The Balai Islam Complex represented the first phase of the wider redevelopment of the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) headquarters. Comprising of three expansive prayer halls, each accommodating up to 2,850 worshippers, the complex also houses seminar rooms, residential quarters, and a café.
INTERIORS
While traditional mosque elements have been retained, the design also responds to the changing times and needs of the people. For example, the ayats or verses from the Quran adorns the dome ceiling of the main prayer hall at the heart of the complex, encircling a magnificent chandelier imported from Egypt. Meanwhile, a neutral color scheme put the emphasis on the building form and functional clarity of the spaces.
The design is rooted in three core Islamic principles—moderation, inclusivity, and respect—interpreted with a modern twist. Carefully curated colors, textures, geometric patterns and materials strike a deliberate balance between cultural tradition and modern sensibility.
